Circuit Rallycross de Dreux - Informations

The story of the Dreux Rallycross began in 1977 with a first event organised by Jean-Claude Legoubin on the Bois-Guyon site. After a break of about ten years, two more rallycross events were held on the same site in 1986 and 1987.
In 1995, Gérard Hamel, the MP and mayor of Dreux, attended a round of the French Championship at Essay (61). Won over by the show and the enthusiasm of the crowd, he asked Philippe Chanoine and Dominique Rioux, president of the Écurie du Thymerais, to organise an event in Dreux.
In 1997 an agreement was reached with the managers of the Dreux racecourse: the Dreux Rallycross was reborn! Over the years it became clear that the site no longer met spectators' expectations, as they were too far from the track. The capacity was also limited.
A round table was organised between the town of Dreux, the Écurie du Thymerais, Laurent Fresnais and Bruno Tondu (the new owners of Bois-Guyon, renamed Circuit de l'Ouest Parisien). The aim was then to design this new track. The Écurie du Thymerais had one main objective: to offer as much action as possible! With a width of 13 to 17 metres, the new circuit features a joker lap that encourages overtaking and strategy. No less than 70% of the surface consists of 12,000 tonnes of cement-bound gravel mixed with sand. Another spectacular innovation is a corner banked at 12% with a low-grip asphalt surface.
Another requirement: the public had to be able to see the whole circuit. The capacity is 22,000 spectators.
