The Wachauring is in Melk, Lower Austria, two kilometres from the famous abbey, close to the A1 motorway between St. Pölten and Amstetten (about 85 km west of Vienna). Opened in April 1973 for rallycross, it has been run since 2003 by the ÖAMTC, which modernised it into a driver training and road safety centre.
The asphalt circuit is 1,150 m long and can be driven in both directions, a rarity in Europe. The whole track can be watered, and LED floodlights allow night driving. Gravel rallycross sections run along part of the layout. The venue also has a 750 m karting track and an 11,000 m² paddock.
Open driving sessions are held regularly, mostly on a watered track to stay within the noise limit; cars on slicks or semi-slicks drive on a dry track. Noise limit: 83 dB drive-by.
On site: panorama restaurant, seminar rooms, racing car hire.
